Utah is traditionally known for its beauty and outdoor recreation, for obvious reasons.
However, the state’s reputation has expanded beyond red rock arches and “The Greatest Snow on Earth.” It’s quickly becoming one of the hottest tech hubs in the world. In the late 1970’s, businesses like WordPerfect laid the foundation, and now the greater Wasatch Front is earning the reputation as the “Silicon Slopes” due to the rise of influential tech companies and startups.
On January 19 & 20 the nonprofit organization, Silicon Slopes, with the support of many of the state’s leading tech companies including Sorenson Media, put on the first annual Silicon Slopes Tech Summit. The summit, dubbed as the largest and most prominent annual tech event in Utah, brought together approximately 5,000 attendees over the two days. The Summit featured luminary keynotes, premium workshops, a $300k startup competition, awards, and a fantastic concert finale.
The event served as an excellent opportunity to rub shoulders with some of the brightest minds in the tech industry and learn from the accomplished panelists and keynotes. Greg Woodward, our CFO, kicked off day two of the event and moderated the panel “What It Takes To Go Public, And What Makes A Good IPO.”
To top it off, attendees that stopped by our kiosk in the networking hall had a chance to win a smart TV.
Congrats to Barbara Liau on winning a brand new 55” smart TV!
The tech community in our backyard here in Utah is vibrant and growing. We are excited and proud to be a part of it.
