“We are really big on quality control and Squeeze is a reliable, permanent component of our workflow. ”
Background
Valerie Junge is Senior Editor for Big Sky Editorial, the video production company that edits work for such high-profile clients such as Mastercard, Xbox 360, Miller and Microsoft. Junge has been an editor with the company for the last 15 years and has been using Sorenson Squeeze since it's inception 9 years ago. Big Sky Editorial has typically been a high-end HD edit shop utilizing the best tools such as Avid and Final Cut Pro. Most of the footage coming into Big Sky has been shot on film and needs to be processed in a HD environment for both HD and SD distribution.
The Problem
Doing mostly short form content and commercials on a daily basis, Junge”s turnaround time needs to be fairly quick. In the past they have had to use tapes and DVD”s to showcase their work to their clients before the final cut is produced. Understandably, it takes massive amounts of time and energy to create and deliver videos for a storage medium such as tape or DVD... time that is truly at a premium.
“Time is always of the essence,” says Junge. “We want to show our clients what the end result will truly look like. If it is shipping for cinema or TV, we want to make sure we are presenting it properly.”
The Solution
After upgrading to Sorenson Squeeze, Junge found that she could mostly eliminate the need for external storage mediums for review and approval. She found that Squeeze could produce high quality videos that that they could post online for rough cuts and final approvals.
“My clients are always very satisfied with the quality they see through the web,” said Junge. “We rely on Squeeze for the entire approval process between San Francisco and New York.”
“We are really big on quality control and Squeeze is a reliable, permanent component of our workflow. It can work with any combination of platforms and applications. We have tried other programs, but Sorenson has always come out the winner.”
Doing things properly is important here and in the end that really saves us time. I love Squeeze because it allows us to do just that.”
The Outcome
Having been a loyal Squeeze user from the beginning Junge wasn’t surprised that Squeeze fit the bill for their encoding needs, but she was pleasantly surprised by some of the new features that Squeeze had to offer.
“The preview function is great,” continued Junge. “Now I can preview a sample of the encoded file without doing the whole thing. I also love the watch folders and the ability to do pushes to mobile devices.”
