Sorenson Spark Video Decoder Licensed by Flash Networks for Intelligent Mobile Internet Solutions

Sorenson Spark Video Decoder Enables Playback of Largest Library of Internet Video for Flash Networks Customers

SAN DIEGO (March 27, 2012)—Sorenson Media today announced that Flash Networks®, the leading provider of mobile Internet optimization and monetization solutions, has licensed the Sorenson Spark video decoder for use in its Harmony™ Mobile Internet Services Gateway. With the addition of Sorenson Spark, Flash Networks customers will be able to seamlessly transcode and deliver the largest installed base of online video across mobile devices.

Sorenson Spark was the first codec used in Macromedia Flash, now Adobe Flash. The decoder exclusively enables the playback of hundreds of millions of videos on the Internet, including those on YouTube, the single largest online video destination site today. The Sorenson Spark SDK allows developers to integrate the Sorenson Spark decoder into a wide array of programmable chipsets, semiconductors and server-based transcoding solutions.

Flash Networks’ Harmony Transcoder provides the smoothest possible viewing based on real-time network conditions and measures the end-to-end user experience during transcoding to ensure adherence to quality standards. The transcoder further varies the level of optimization and dynamically transrates the video in real-time or offline depending on network conditions.

“We are thrilled to have established this partnership with Flash Networks, a true leader in mobile Internet solutions,” said Douglas Cebik, director of business development for Sorenson Media. “This relationship will further expand the accessibility of video content across a number of mobile platforms, ensuring more consumers are able to access as much rich content as possible via their mobile devices – including everything encoding using the industry-pioneering Sorenson Spark codec.”
